Scite MCP Terms
If Customer or any authorized user accesses or uses Model Context Protocol (“MCP”) integration functionality made available through the Scite Platform, these Scite MCP Terms (the “Scite MCP Terms”) are incorporated into and made part of the Service and Subscription Agreement (the “Agreement”) by and between Scite, LLC (“Scite”) and Customer and govern Customer's and authorized users’ access to and use of the MCP Integration and related artificial intelligence (“AI”) features, including Customer’s use of scholarly content in connection with such functionality. Capitalized terms not defined in these Scite MCP Terms shall have the meanings given to them in the General Terms and Conditions.
1. MCP Integration Terms & Conditions
1.1 Grant of License. Subject to the terms and conditions of the Agreement and these Scite MCP Terms, Scite hereby grants Customer a non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, limited right and license during the Term to access and use the MCP Integration as a feature of the Scite Platform to retrieve and view scholarly content indexed within the Scite Platform through large language model (“LLM”) applications solely for the purposes specified below. For the avoidance of doubt, the foregoing license grants only a right to access and use the functionality of the MCP Integration and does not grant Customer any ownership of, or license rights in, any scholarly content except as expressly set forth in the Agreement.
1.2 Usage Limits. Customer will not circumvent or attempt to circumvent any usage limits, rate limits, or technical restrictions applicable to the MCP Integration as outlined in the Agreement or otherwise communicated by Scite.
1.3 Content Rights. The MCP Integration facilitates access to scholarly content but does not confer any rights to such content beyond those obtained by Customer from applicable third-party rights holders. Customer is solely responsible for ensuring that its access to and use of such content (including through any LLM application and any Outputs generated in connection therewith) complies with all applicable laws and third-party rights and usage restrictions. Without limiting the foregoing, Customer acknowledges that any scholarly content accessed through the MCP Integration may be subject to third-party intellectual property rights and usage restrictions, and that Customer is solely responsible for any downstream use of such content, including through any LLM application or in any Outputs generated in connection therewith. Scite does not monitor, control, or enforce Customer’s use of such content and assumes no responsibility for Customer’s use, misuse, or downstream use of such content.
1.4 No Warranty as to AI Outputs. Scite makes no warranty regarding the accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any particular purpose of any Output generated by an LLM application in connection with the MCP Integration. Customer acknowledges that AI-generated responses may contain errors and that Scite's role is limited to providing access to indexed scholarly content. Customer further acknowledges that such Outputs are generated through automated processes in response to Customer inputs by third-party LLM applications and may incorporate, summarize, or otherwise reflect third-party content, including scholarly content accessed through the Scite Platform. Customer is solely responsible for evaluating and determining the appropriateness of any Outputs and for any use of or reliance on such Outputs, including ensuring that any use of Outputs complies with applicable law and third-party rights.
1.5 MCP Functionality; No Expansion of Rights. Customer acknowledges that the MCP Integration is a feature of the Scite Platform that enables the retrieval and presentation of content in response to Customer inputs through supported LLM applications. The MCP Integration does not alter the ownership of, or rights in, any content made available through the Scite Platform and does not grant Customer any rights to such content beyond those otherwise provided under the Agreement or by applicable third-party rights holders. Without limiting the foregoing, use of the MCP Integration does not expand Customer’s permitted use of any content or Outputs, and all such use remains subject to the terms, conditions, and restrictions set forth in the Agreement and any applicable third-party rights. Scite shall have no responsibility for Customer’s use of such content or any Outputs generated in connection therewith.
2. Definitions
For the purposes of these Scite MCP Terms, the following terms have the meanings set forth below:
2.1 “MCP INTEGRATION” means the technical implementation that allows scholarly content indexed within the Scite Platform to be accessed and retrieved through a Model Context Protocol connection in response to end-user prompts within supported LLM applications, and presented to such applications as contextual information in connection with user queries.
2.2 “MODEL CONTEXT PROTOCOL” or “MCP” means a standardized protocol that enables secure, controlled connections between LLM applications and external data sources, allowing contextual information to be provided to the model during user interactions without training the model on such data.
2.3 “TOOL USE” means a single invocation of the Scite MCP Integration by an authorized end-user through a supported LLM application that triggers a retrieval of content from the Scite Platform. A Tool Use occurs each time the MCP Integration is called, regardless of the number of results returned in the response.
