Reprints Desk and Deep Web Technologies Announce Agreement to Integrate Research Services

October 25, 2011

SANTA MONICA, Calif., and SANTA FE, N.M., Oct. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -->Reprints Desk, Inc.® and Deep Web Technologies, Inc.™ today announced plans to integrate Deep Web Technologies' Explorit™ federated search product with single-article document delivery provided by Reprints Desk. Federated search is a discovery service that enables researchers to simultaneously search across multiple online databases and easily view search results that have been aggregated, ranked, and de-duplicated. Document delivery is an information retrieval service that fills content gaps within the library collections of research-driven organizations, by providing researchers with single copies of copyright-cleared journal articles that are not available through their organization's journal subscriptions. With the integration of these two capabilities, researchers will be able to locate highly relevant information and have it delivered to them through a single online service.

Scott Ahlberg, Head of Corporate Services at Reprints Desk, stated, "The integration with Explorit enables Reprints Desk to help its growing base of document delivery customers maximize the value of their journal subscriptions, while filling content coverage gaps. It also allows us to meet our customers' need for integrating search into the literature retrieval workflow, while enriching the growing number of research services that are bundled into our hosted article management software platform. With the Reprints Desk implementation of Explorit, native publisher databases will be ranked first followed by PubMed and other secondary sources."

Dr. Walter Warnick, Director of OSTI, the Department of Energy, Office of Scientific and Technical Information, commented on this announcement, "For a number of years, my organization and Deep Web Technologies have successfully worked on cutting-edge projects, having a common goal: to accelerate the rate of scientific breakthroughs by making research results easier to find and more accessible. The integration of Deep Web Technologies’ federated search with Reprints Desk’s document delivery service is a significant new step towards advancing this goal.”

Abe Lederman, President and CTO of Deep Web Technologies, commented, "The relationship with Reprints Desk will enable Deep Web Technologies' customers to receive significant added value beyond federation through the addition of document delivery. Additionally our integrated Alerts capability will make it easy for customers of both our companies to stay abreast of new scientific developments in their chosen areas of interest."

Reprints Desk's document delivery service was named a 2011 trend-setting product by KMWorld Magazine and earned the top ranking overall and in every category in the 2008 Document Delivery Best Practices and Vendor Scorecard by analyst and advisory firm Outsell, Inc. Deep Web Technologies has been recognized as one of the fastest growing high-tech companies inNew Mexico for the last five years and was named to EContent Magazine's top 100 list in 2009, being recognized as one of the companies that "matter most" in the digital content industry.
