Pending Client Approval

Posted in Company News, Research Solutions on January 11th, 2012 by Matthew

***The point: We’ve added “Pending Client Approval” to our list of order statuses. If this appears on you order update, please review the associated notes and respond, letting us know if you’d like to proceed with the request.

If you’ve used our service in the past, then you’ve received an email from us with an update on your order. Typically, this email lets you know that we’ve received your requests and we’re working on them. Sometimes, these update emails may show some of the requests in your order “Completed”, while others are “Canceled” or “Can’t-Filled”. The statuses “Completed” and “Can’t-Filled” are self-explanatory, but “Canceled” seems a bit vague. You may be thinking, “Who canceled the order?” or “Why was it canceled?”

An item is “Canceled” when the request exceeds the maximum cost set by the client, if there’s a delay in obtaining the item or if the citation is incomplete. In an effort to communicate these issues more effectively, we’ve added the status “Pending Client Approval”, which you’ll begin to see in place of “Canceled”.

Our clients will begin seeing this on their order update emails immediately, when applicable. If it shows up on your email, simply review the reason for the alert and respond, letting us know if you’d like to proceed with the request.

If you use DocTrac to manage your orders, you’ll also see a new button on your homepage that will allow you to show those requests that are “Pending Client Approval”. Please review these requests and let us know if you’d like us to proceed.

After thirty days, a “Pending Client Approval” request becomes “Canceled”. However, it is not removed from our system, and the request can be approved at any time.

Reprints, ePrints & Permissions

Posted in Research Solutions on November 10th, 2011 by Matthew

Most likely, you’ve used Research Solutions to retrieve journal articles, book chapters, conference proceedings or some other type of document. That’s what we’re great at. This often means that we send you a single copy of the document you’ve requested, but we know there are times when multiple copies of the document may be needed. Whether it’s for a presentation at a conference, marketing materials for a client, educational information to be passed around your company or for any other need, Research Solutions can handle these reprints or eprints for you.

When requesting a reprint, some of the choices we offer are bound copies with supplemental information, a branded cover page, and to deliver them shrink-wrapped. Similar choices are available for eprints as well. If you’d like to handle the printing yourself, we can also obtain permissions from the publisher on your behalf. Simply give us a call to speak to someone about your needs, and we’ll make sure it’s delivered when you need it.

The Research Solutions Summer BBQ

Posted in Uncategorized on August 23rd, 2011 by Matthew

This past weekend, we all got together for a few hours of BBQ’d goodness, cold beverages and a bit of competition. Our annual BBQ was held in the same place as last year… a nice community park surrounded by towering oak trees in the small ranching town of Durham. It was the perfect setting for a relaxing Saturday gathering. We had plenty of food for everyone, including tri-tip, bratwurst, hotdogs, and black bean burgers. After feasting, we began the games, which included a bean-bag toss and ladder golf. On the line was a paid day-off, so everyone got involved! Alas, there could be only one winner, and Zach took home the prize. Here are a few pics from the event:

Everyone's just waiting for their turn!

Shooting the breeze.

It was a winning shot!

Success!

Posted in Uncategorized on August 2nd, 2011 by Matthew

It’s not quite the cross-country road trip you take in college, but our travels to Philadelphia this summer were a welcome getaway. We exhibited at the SLA and AALL conferences, and since both were held in Philly this year, we had a chance to check out the city and not just the convention center. Our time in the conference hall, however, was fun and fast-paced, meeting attendees and handing out swag.

Out of the hundreds who entered our drawing for a Nook Color, Debbie Rusin of Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP walked away with the prize. To everyone, we’d like to offer a big thank-you for stopping by, and hope to see you next year!

We’ll Be In Philadelphia Later This Week For The AALL Conference

Posted in Uncategorized on July 21st, 2011 by Matthew

It’s that time of year again! Later this week, we’ll be on our way to Philadelphia to exhibit at the 2011 AALL Annual Meeting & Conference. This year promises to be an inspiring and energizing convention for legal information professionals, with four days of valuable educational programming and many opportunities for networking. In addition to the many programs, which include topics on managing library costs and improving efficiency, there will be nearly 100 vendor exhibitors ready to help you get a current pulse on the industry.

While this conference has much to offer attendees, we’d like to take this opportunity to discuss your document delivery needs and find out how we can better serve them. Whether you’ve been using our service for years or just discovered us, we’d appreciate the chance to meet you and learn about your needs. We’ll have plenty of pens, letter openers, fun buttons, and a Nook Color we’re looking to unload! We’ll be at booth 836, just down the second aisle from the right side of the convention center.

Hope to see you there!

The British Library & Google Team Up

Posted in Just For Fun on July 6th, 2011 by Matthew

The Prince of Orange's stuffed hippo

Two giants in the industry of information have teamed up to bring the world’s knowledge to the people. The British Library and Google are teaming up to digitize a huge number of out-of-copyright books, pamphlets and periodicals… around 250,000 of them. The project will cover printed material dated from 1700 until 1870, and will focus on books that aren’t freely available online at this time.

What does this mean? Once a book is digitized, it will available for full text search, download and reading through Google Books or the Library’s website. Anyone will be able to view these historical documents from anywhere in the world, truly upholding an original goal of the library to provide access to as much of the world’s information as possible. Plus, it’s just kind on neat to look at old books.
